CARMINA CORTES
Artist’s Bio

“As a result of many years of suffering from childhood injuries, I’ve experienced depression that I have articulated in paintings expressing hops. My passion for my Mexican heritage drives me to create bright, colorful pieces that remind me of childhood summers in Puerto Vallarta. My newest pieces are mixed medium with strong overtones of contemporary Mexican art, which I have grown to admire. One of my goals is to create positive connections with the Latino community, especially with my Latino students.” Raised in southern California Carmina Cortes holds a degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Fine Arts. She has studied at the Art Instruction School of Minneapolis, Minnesota and at Santa Monica College.
Holds a Communications degree from American Communication Institute. Presently she is working on her Masters in the Art of Teaching at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
