Des Plaines- Carmina Cortes, a resident of Des Plaines, has been selected for participation in Call and Response: from Artemisia to Frida Womens Juried Art Exhibit an event hosted by the Oaktons Womens and Gender studies program in cooperation with the Koehnline Museum of Art. Please join us by experiencing the artwork of Carmina Cortes as well as other artists during our public reception Thursday,
October 6, 2011 from 5-8pm. The exhibit will feature such artwork as Frida Catrina, frida Catrina is made of paper-mache with mix media. Frida Catrina wears an original handmade dress as well as colorful flowers on her head. She is a skeleton version of Frida in a colorful and very traditional dressed Mexican. Frida Catrina was made to inspire traditional and cultural awareness of Day of the Dead in our youth today.
